Full‑time position with variable pay range of $22.61 to $28.94 per hour rles Health System.
Position OverviewThe Phlebotomist processes laboratory orders and performs phlebotomy procedures/collections with as little discomfort as possible to patients of all ages. Performs procedures following system policies and the scope of practice.
Essential Functions and Duties- Communicate and interact with a diverse population and represent St. Charles Health System professionally.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and handle patients experiencing a variety of emotions.
- Manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies.
- Prioritize specimen collections using the lab information system.
- Process and test samples using various instruments following laboratory standards.
- Perform point‑of‑care testing, including CLIA waived testing and moderate complexity testing.
- Use multiple computer systems to locate MD orders, update patient information, research billing questions, place orders, and meet regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate the distribution of results via fax, phone, or delivery as requested.
- Assist in special projects as needed.
- Train and mentor others using constructive feedback after meeting competency and experience requirements.
- Support Lean principles and maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
- Maintain and comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Participation in college‑level science classes preferred.
- Required:
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. - Preferred:
Phlebotomy certification from an approved agency (ASCP, NCA, NCPT, military).
- Required:
None. - Preferred:
Direct patient care experience (preferably lab) and/or college science background.
- Strong team‑working and collaborative skills.
- Ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements.
- Continually (75%+):
Standing, walking, keyboard operation, grasping, clear speaking voice. - Frequently (50–75%):
Sitting, lifting 1–25lb, carrying 1–25lb. - Occasionally (26–50%):
Bending, stoop/kneel/crouch, climbing ladder/step‑stool, reaching overhead. - Rarely (10–25%):
Climbing stairs, lifting 25–50lb, carrying 25–50lb, pushing/pulling 25–50lb, operating vehicle. - Exposure:
Rarely (10–25%) to wet/slippery areas and chemical solutions; never to heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surfaces.
