Position: Ultrasound Technologist (Relief)

Typical pay range: $36.27 - $50.08 per hour, based on experience, in addition to shift differentials.

This relief position is eligible for a 15% differential on top of the base rate in lieu of benefits.

Position Overview

The Ultrasound Technologist performs all ultrasound studies and related procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision in accordance with established department and hospital guidelines. If assigned to either the Redmond, Prineville, or Madras hospital, employees may be required to work in various northern hospital locations for St.Charles Health System, with flexibility to work in all three locations. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Functions and Duties
  • Performs diagnostic and interventional ultrasound examinations in accordance with department policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Follows health and safety policies and procedures of quality patient care.
  • Assists in record maintenance and statistics as requested.
  • Participates in student training program as requested.
  • Assists with special projects as requested.

Education
  • Required: High school diploma or GED. Graduate eligible and registry‑eligible from an accredited ultrasound training program.
  • Preferred: N/A
Licensure, Certification, and Registration
  • Required: Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registry or registry‑eligible (OB‑GYN, abdominal, and physics). Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) license required. Valid Oregon state driver’s license. American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA BLS/CPR).
  • Preferred: Additional ARDMS registries. Support RDMS, SDMS, and local affiliations.
Experience
  • Required: N/A
  • Preferred: One (1) year full‑time experience as a registered ultrasound technologist.
Additional Position Information

If assigned to either the Redmond, Prineville, or Madras hospital, employees may be required to work in various northern hospital locations for St.Charles Health System. This applies to relief positions assigned to these locations, with flexibility to work in all three locations.

Personal Protective Equipment

Must be able to wear appropriate PPE required to perform the job safely.

    Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice, and ability to hear normal speech level.
  • Frequently (50%):
    Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1–25 pounds.
  • Occasionally (25%):
    Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder or step‑stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25–50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.
  • Rarely (10%):
    Climbing stairs; exposure to wet/slippery area, chemical solution.
  • Never (0%):
    Climbing ladder or step‑stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle, heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface, blood‑borne pathogens.
