Position Overview

The Sterile Processing Technician rles Health Systems is responsible for assembling case carts for surgeries, cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing equipment and instruments used within the hospital. The technician ensures instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated for safe handling and does not manage other caregivers.

Essential Functions & Duties
  • Coordinate, assemble, disassemble, and distribute supplies for surgical cases
  • Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize instruments and supplies
  • Prepare case carts and procedure equipment
  • Operate various sterilization equipment
  • Re‑stock department inventory and ensure proper storage of instruments
  • Maintain department equipment
  • Support the organization’s vision, mission, and values
  • Implement Value Improvement Practice (VIP‑Lean) principles and promote continuous improvement
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests
  • Conduct all activities with professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with laws and policies
  • Deliver customer service and patient care that is timely, efficient, and accurate
  • Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned
Education
  • Required:

    High school diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification
  • Required:

    Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management or SPD Technician certification from CBSPD within 18 months of hire
Experience
  • Preferred:
    Experience in sterile processing, healthcare materials management, operating room, and/or patient care
Physical Requirements

Continually (75% or more):
Standing, walking, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 25–50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, use of clear and audible speaking voice, and ability to hear normal speech level. Frequently (50%):
Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 11–75 pounds. Occasionally (25%):
Climbing ladder/step stool, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 1–10 pounds, hearing whispered speech level. Rarely (10%):
Sitting, climbing stairs, keyboard operation, operation of motor vehicle. Exposure to elemental factors (25%):
Heat, cold, wet/slippery area, noise, dust, vibration, chemical solution, uneven surface. Blood‑borne pathogen exposure category:
Risk for exposure to BBP.

Schedule

40 hours per week. Regular. First Shift – Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–18:30. Schedule may include weekends and holidays. Not exempt. Role in Technician Central Processing job family.
