Role Overview
Deschutes Brewery is seeking a Production Brewer to manage the brewing and fermentation of Deschutes and Boneyard beers. The role involves preparation of raw materials, brewing, fermentation, clarification, and packaging readiness. Prior experience is preferred but we provide on‑the‑job training.
Schedule & CompensationFull‑time position with a typical 12‑hour shift, 3 days per week (3/12 schedule). Rotating day and night shift. Base wage starts at $21.61/hr for new candidates, up to $24.65/hr based on experience, with a $3.00/hr night shift differential. Additional wage increases available through cross‑training, specialty licenses, and promotional opportunities.
Core Duties and Responsibilities- Assures optimum beer quality by following SOP, filing non‑conformities, suggesting process improvements, staying abreast of brewing communications and process changes, and attending brewers’ meetings as schedule allows.
- Manages daily tasks to meet production needs, including cleaning and sanitizing equipment, reading and following production schedules, operating centrifuges, yeast harvesting and disposal, bottle conditioning, and ensuring finished beer meets specifications for packaging.
- Documents and enters data for all processes in the brewhouse and cellar.
- Coordinates work with other departments (brewhouses, cellars, packaging, QA and warehouse).
- Constantly challenges the stuck, boring, mundane, and provides solutions and initiative to make a difference.
- Gets involved with company‑wide initiatives.
- Continually gains knowledge of the craft beer world and shares that knowledge.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
- Graduation from a fermentation science, engineering, general science or other related field preferred.
- Previous production brewing experience preferred.
- Able to frequently lift 55 lbs to approximately waist height and tilt up to 200 lbs.
- Able to work for extended periods in a physical setting requiring repetitive lifting, wrenching, walking, and exposure to hot and cold environments.
