WHATYOU'LL DO
We are seeking an Experienced Body Shop Technician to join our team. The technician is responsible for preparing aircraft surfaces and components for painting and ensuring they meet the highest standards for fit, finish, and quality. This role performs skilled surface preparation, bodywork, sanding, masking, and repair work on aircraft components prior to priming and painting. The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive bodywork, collision repair, restoration, or aircraft finishing and be capable of independently completing complex preparation and repair tasks with minimal supervision.
Attention to detail, craftsmanship, and pride in producing a high-quality finished product are essential. This is a hands-on position in a project-based aircraft manufacturing environment where quality and consistency are critical.
- Perform skilled surface preparation and bodywork on aircraft parts and components prior to priming and painting
- Perform advanced sanding and blocking techniques to achieve smooth, uniform, paint-ready surfaces
- Identify and correct surface imperfections, including scratches, dents, pinholes, low spots, and other defects
- Complete body filler and other approved repair processes as required
- Block and sand primed parts to meet established surface and finish requirements
- Perform wet lay-up processes as required
- Accurately mask aircraft parts and components in preparation for priming and painting
- Inspect completed work to ensure surfaces meet quality standards before moving to the next stage of production
- Read and follow work instructions, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements
- Complete required production and quality documentation accurately
- Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and staging areas in a clean and organized condition
- Identify and communicate quality concerns or potential issues before they progress to subsequent processes
- Work independently while meeting established quality, safety, and production schedules
- Collaborate effectively with painters, technicians, and other members of the Paint and Body Shop Team
- Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
- Support occasional overtime to meet project deadlines
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in automotive bodywork, collision repair, restoration, aircraft finishing, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to perform bodywork and advanced surface preparation with minimal supervision
- Strong experience with sanding, blocking, body filler, surface correction, and preparation for primer and paint
- Ability to identify surface imperfections and determine the appropriate repair or preparation technique
- Experience working with fiberglass, composites, or similar materials is preferred
- Experience with wet lay-up processes is preferred
- Ability to accurately mask complex parts and surfaces for painting
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications
