Company Description Stroke Awareness Oregon (SAO) is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to improving stroke outcomes and recovery in the Central Oregon area. The organization focuses on increasing awareness of stroke signs, promoting rapid response, and supporting survivors and their families through education and resources. SAO collaborates with healthcare providers, community partners, and local organizations to build a stronger support network for those affected by stroke.

Role Description The Executive Director is a full-time, on-site role based in Bend, OR, responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for Stroke Awareness Oregon. This role manages daily operations, including program development, community outreach, fundraising, and partnership cultivation. The Executive Director ensures effective allocation of resources, and maintains compliance with nonprofit governance and reporting requirements. Day-to-day tasks include building and maintaining relationships with donors and stakeholders, developing and executing annual plans and budgets, and representing SAO at events, meetings, and public forums.

The Executive Director also works closely with the Board of Directors to set organizational goals, evaluate program impact, and advance SAO’s mission. The position mentors and coaches two direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations, including staff supervision and board collaboration.
  • Strong skills in strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational operations, with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, grant writing, and community partnership development.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to represent the organization professionally in the community.
  • Background or familiarity with healthcare, public health, or community services, particularly in stroke awareness or related fields, is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to work on-site in Bend, OR, and travel locally for meetings, events, and outreach activities as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business, healthcare, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience is a plus.
  • High level of integrity, cultural competence, and commitment to equity, inclusion, and the mission of improving stroke outcomes and recovery.

Benefits include PTO, health care coverage at 75%, full dental. Expected salary range is $80,000-$90,000 DOE.
