Position Overview
Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in managing daily unit operations, including staffing, scheduling, orientation, education, budget monitoring, quality and safety initiatives, and adherence to policy. The role ensures patient care standards, promotes evidence‑based practice, and fosters a safe, productive environment for caregivers and patients.
Essential Functions and Duties- Develop and manage staffing schedules in compliance with regulations.
- Oversee unit assignments based on patient needs and caregiver skills.
- Participate in hiring, coaching, and performance monitoring of direct reports.
- Provide education and training opportunities and maintain nursing competency.
- Collaborate with leadership on staff meetings, agendas, and unit objectives.
- Maintain knowledge of nursing principles, standards, and laws in Oregon.
- Assist in budget development and manage department operations within budget.
- Develop and monitor unit performance metrics such as LOS, agency costs, overtime, vacancy, and turnover.
- Deliver customer service that promotes goodwill and efficiency.
- Plan and implement clinical service delivery improvements and policy changes.
- Develop unit goals and objectives aligned with organizational values.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements and manage risk.
- Communicate effectively with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and other departments.
- Promote teamwork, positive change, and staff engagement.
- Conduct daily rounds, respond to patient and family concerns, and utilize satisfaction surveys.
- Participate in interdisciplinary committees to improve patient care.
- Support the organization's vision, mission, and values.
- Implement Value Improvement Practice (VIP‑Lean) principles and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, and ethical standards, reporting any violations.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required.
- Required:
RN licensure, current Oregon RN license. - Preferred: BSN, certification in specialty area, AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
- Required:
Three years clinical nursing experience; one year leadership experience. - Preferred:
Two years leadership experience in a health care organization.
- 75% or more:
Standing, walking, keyboard operation, clear verbal communication. - 50%:
Sitting, lifting/carrying 1–25 pounds. - 25%:
Bending, stooping, climbing, reaching overhead, lifting 25–50 pounds. - 10%:
Climbing stairs, exposure to wet or chemical areas. - 0%:
Climbing ladder/step‑stool requiring motor vehicle operation; other rarely situations.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
