Position OverviewThe Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager by managing daily unit operations, including staffing, scheduling, orientation, education, budget monitoring, patient care standards, quality and safety initiatives, process improvement, and adherence to agreements. The role sustains a patient care environment that is safe, compassionate, and productive.
Responsibilities- Develop staffing schedules and ensure adherence to the staffing plan in accordance with established regulations.
- Oversee unit assignments based on patient needs, caregivers' skills/abilities, department resources, and operational requirements.
- Participate in hiring, coaching, and monitoring performance of all direct reports to develop and maintain a high-performing team.
- Provide opportunities for growth and development, arranging appropriate education and training for caregivers.
- Collaborate with leadership on staff meetings and agendas.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, standards, and techniques; apply this knowledge in accordance with system policies and regulations.
- Participate in budget development, maintaining operations within budget for staffing, productivity, patient flow, bed management, and triage.
- Develop and monitor unit operational performance metrics, including LOS, agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee customer service delivery, ensuring it is timely, efficient, and accurate.
- Assist in planning, recommending, and implementing clinical service delivery and policy changes to enhance nursing performance.
- Assist in developing unit goals and objectives that support the system's values and goals.
- Monitor compliance and safety requirements; implement and manage organizational safety directives and goals.
- Communicate effectively, maintaining professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, guests, and other departments; foster teamwork across all shifts and units.
- Stimulate and facilitate positive change, involving caregivers in planning and decision-making.
- Round daily on the unit to interact with caregivers, families, and patients for feedback.
- Respond to patient and family concerns or complaints with sensitivity and compassion promptly.
- Promote staff empowerment through collaborative approaches and encouragement of new ideas.
- Utilize patient satisfaction survey findings to develop unit-based customer service goals.
- Utilize engagement survey findings to develop recruitment and retention goals.
