Purpose:

Assist with the day‑to‑day operations of the bookstore. Operate cash registers, perform associated cashiering duties, and provide customer service to staff, students, and college visitors. Assist other bookstore staff with projects as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate computerized cash register system
  • Balance cash, checks, and daily receipts
  • Greet customers and provide customer service, both in person and on the phone
  • Assist staff with stocking food and beverage, merchandise, and textbooks
  • Assist customers with purchasing required course materials from the sales floor and textbook area
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Visual ability to read price tag information and computer screen
  • Basic English reading, writing, and communication skills
  • Basic mathematical skills for cash register functions and inventory counts
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a diverse workplace
  • Manual dexterity for handling cash registers, electronic equipment, and paperwork
  • Ability to work scheduled hours during peak periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse backgrounds, manage conflicts, and work in a team environment

Physical and Ergonomic Requirements

Hours:

Bookstore hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Work is performed in an open area setting, primarily sedentary with time spent sitting or standing. Employees may need to reach, bend, lift, stoop, crouch, and handle items. Duties include standing, sitting, using hands and fingers, handling objects and tools, and operating a computer screen used more than 50 % of the time.

Employees must be able to lift up to 225 lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Prior computerized point‑of‑sale and cash handling experience
