The Facilities Department is responsible for maintenance, repair, remodel, construction, landscape maintenance and custodial services for county-owned and/or operated facilities and properties.

ABOUT THE JOBThis position is responsible for performing basic maintenance and repair tasks for County buildings, facilities, landscape maintenance, and related infrastructure for County departments. This position primarily works Monday - Friday, eight-hour workdays.
Key Responsibilities- Performs a variety of basic maintenance, installation, and repair of facilities, equipment, and components in buildings and grounds.
- Performs a variety of skilled methods and techniques used for landscape maintenance.
- Performs preventive maintenance of irrigation systems.
Knowledge of or experience with:
- Methods, procedures, materials, equipment, and techniques used for facilities maintenance and landscape maintenance.
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in facilities.
- Basic principles and practices of the construction industry and building trades.
Skill in:
- Using and maintaining special vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Following safe work practices and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

$4,267.00 - $5,718.24 per month for a 172.67-hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available June 2026.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent;
- AND some work experience in building and grounds maintenance;
- OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
- Experience in the operation of commercial landscape equipment.
Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver s license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver s license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (
NOTE:
Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
Must have dependable transportation and be able and willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
Possession of, or ability to obtain an Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) Pesticide License within 12 months of hire date. Must maintain licensure once obtained.
Physical RequirementsWork is primarily performed in a field setting which may require protective equipment or involve working in uncomfortable conditions for extended periods of time. Must have the physical ability for continuous physical effort including frequent bending, climbing, squatting, and manipulation of and lifting of equipment and supplies. Must have the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, walk in rough terrain, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, talk, hear, see and to work in sometimes adverse conditions.
