Position: Limited Energy A Technician

Overview

Low Voltage Technician jobs are in demand and a great long‑term career choice. If you are not already licensed, apprentice positions are available.

These technicians install and maintain low voltage cabling for commercial buildings across the United States, including security, fire, access control, surveillance video, communications, fiber optics, networking, automation, audio‑video, lighting, and many other low voltage systems.

Responsibilities

We complete a wide range of tasks to ensure client systems remain healthy:

  • Pulling, labeling, dressing and terminating horizontal cable (cat5, cat6, fiber, coax, AV wire, fire alarm, and security & access control).
  • Configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting data networks, telephony systems, security, fire, access control, CCTV, and other technologies in accordance with industry standards.
  • Performing system testing and documentation.
  • Using high‑level testers, installing telecommunications equipment, switches, routers, building support structures such as ladder racks and cable trays, while following industry standards, reading blueprints and coordinating with other trade contractors efficiently.
Education Requirements

If you already hold a Limited Energy A License (LEA), you’re ready to apply. Other applicants need at least a GED or high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and a fundamental knowledge of EIA, TIA and ANSI standards.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in Electrical Engineering, IT, or Computer Networking.
  • Membership and study in professional organizations such as BICSI and NFPA.
Required Skills
  • Foundational knowledge of EIA/TIA standards and basic blueprint reading.
  • Awareness of OSHA safety standards and strong planning and organization skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, with willingness to travel to remote job sites.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Salary Expectations

The average annual compensation in Oregon and southwestern Washington is $85,720. Contractors working for companies in Oregon can earn $39 to $54 per hour, depending on experience. Apprenticeships are available and begin at 50 % of the regulated rate.
