About the JobThis position oversees orientation and intake for youth in the detention facility, providing ongoing direction using cognitive behavioral interventions. Staff facilitate group activities, act as positive role models, and apply trauma‑informed care, equity and inclusion, de‑escalation skills, and safety practices to create a safe structured environment that helps youth reduce risky behaviors and repair harm.
Staff must be able to work all shifts (day, swing, graveyard) with rotating schedules every 4 months, maintain safety, manage threats, and may need to physically restrain hostile youth. The role includes providing safe, healthy, and supportive environments while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Key Responsibilities- Engage and support youth with trauma history and emotional regulation difficulties.
- Create a safe environment for staff and youth by adhering to policies and practices.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively within a team.
What you bring:
- Knowledge of adolescent behavior, residential or correctional settings, cognitive behavioral techniques.
- Skill in entering data into computerized databases accurately and promptly.
- Ability to facilitate conflict resolution.
- Capacity to accept, internalize and apply feedback.
- Work graveyard shifts and other variations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work state-wide, including any shift, with no guaranteed schedule.
- Sit or stand for long periods; walk, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel, reach, lift, grasp, talk, hear, see, and climb stairs multiple times per shift.
- Work in low‑lighting environments.
- Must not smoke or chew tobacco at work.
- Work at a rapid pace with little control.
- Maintain intense concentration over extended periods.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days.
- Must obtain JJIS and LEDS certification; felony conviction may be disqualifying.
- Must complete IMPACT testing.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- College degree in a related field.
- One year of related experience.
Driving is required. Possession of a valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days; must have dependable transportation and be able to drive across Deschutes County in adverse weather.

Education RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent; or two years of college coursework in criminology, behavioral science, sociology, or related field; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides required skills and knowledge.
