Under minimal supervision, the Transportation Fleet Service Supervisor provides direction for the Fleet Service Manager and technicians in the Bend and La Pine facilities, fueling personnel and bus washing crew in maintaining, repair and rebuilding of equipment of all types. The Supervisor provides assistance to the Transportation Director in the daily activities of the Transportation Department to assure safe, timely, and cost-effective pupil transportation.
The Transportation Fleet Service Supervisor is responsible for the routine maintenance of district vehicles.
The employee will work with Transportation Department leadership to provide direction for the mechanics in the maintenance, repair and rebuilding of equipment of all types. The employee is required to hold a valid Oregon Class B Commercial Drivers license, school bus driver certificate. The employee may be required to drive a bus route or shuttle in emergency situations as needed. Direct supervision is exercised over the Bend and La Pine Fleet Service departments.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepares and maintains a regular program of maintenance and repair for all district owned buses, vehicles and/or licensed equipment.
- Maintains a system for keeping expenditure and repair records of all district vehicles, and complete an accurate record of maintenance for each vehicle.
- Initiates purchase orders for supplies, parts, fuel and accessory equipment.
- Assists with the preparation of bid specifications for new buses and / or other vehicles.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of operational supplies, repair and replacement parts.
- Manages the necessary data collection for district and state reports.
- Manages a record of justification for the purchase of all major parts or contract work as approved by the Business Office.
- Oversees the work schedules of the technicians and Fleet Manager.
- Maintains a regular system for communication with drivers regarding mechanical problems or needs.
- Assists with the identification of priorities and needs for the annual budget building process as it related to the Transportation Department.
- Works cooperatively with the Safety Committee to review and analyze finding of recommendations and take appropriate action.
- Manages the accurate record of job costs, including labor, parts and materials used.
- Investigates and provides training opportunities for all technicians and automotive personnel.
- Develops and institutes preventative maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and safety procedures of the servicing facility.
- Keeps the designated office personnel and the Transportation Director informed of conditions and availability of equipment.
- Locates sources for purchased items included the requisitioning of materials necessary for the operation and maintenance of vehicles and shop transmitting costs and data to the designated Transportation office personnel.
- Inspects the record of jobs and costs kept periodically to ascertain their accuracy.
- Keeps informed of all State and Federal regulations pertaining to all automotive equipment, and is responsible for State Certification Reports and all other duties assigned by the Transportation Director.
- Uses the two-way radio to communicate with drivers and other personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality concerning school district employees and district policy.
- Obtain/Maintain Underground Storage Tank license, Liquid Petroleum Installer license, appropriate fueling training and be responsible for training shop staff in obtaining required certifications.
