Job SummaryThe Commercial Driver is responsible for safely operating company vehicles to transport goods, materials, equipment, passengers, or other authorized items according to assigned routes and schedules. This position ensures safe and timely transportation, performs vehicle inspections, maintains required driving records, and complies with applicable transportation laws, company policies, and safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafely operate company commercial vehicles according to assigned routes, schedules, and operational requirements.
Transport products, materials, equipment, passengers, or other authorized cargo safely and efficiently.
Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine vehicle inspections to identify safety or mechanical issues.
Verify that vehicles are properly loaded, secured, and within applicable weight and capacity limits.
Follow designated routes while adapting to traffic, weather, road conditions, and delivery requirements.
Complete deliveries, pickups, transfers, or transportation assignments accurately and on schedule.
Load, unload, secure, and inspect cargo as required by the position.
Verify shipping documents, delivery receipts, bills of lading, manifests, and other transportation documentation.
Obtain required signatures, delivery confirmations, and other proof-of-delivery documentation.
Maintain accurate daily driving logs, mileage records, fuel records, inspection reports, and delivery documentation.
Report vehicle defects, accidents, incidents, delays, traffic violations, or other safety concerns promptly.
Follow all applicable commercial driving laws, regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
Maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and required endorsements, if applicable.
Ensure required permits, licenses, medical certifications, and vehicle documentation remain current.
Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers, vendors, dispatchers, coworkers, and members of the public.
Communicate with dispatch regarding routes, delivery status, delays, vehicle issues, and changes in assignments.
Use GPS, routing systems, electronic logging devices, dispatch systems, and other transportation technology as required.
Maintain the cleanliness and basic condition of assigned vehicles.
Perform or coordinate basic vehicle maintenance activities such as fueling, fluid checks, tire inspections, and cleaning.
Follow company procedures for fueling, parking, vehicle security, and equipment handling.
Assist with emergency response procedures and follow established accident and incident-reporting requirements.
Protect company vehicles, cargo, equipment, documents, and customer property.
Maintain confidentiality regarding customer, route, shipment, and company information.
Participate in driver safety training, defensive driving programs, and periodic performance reviews.
Support fleet and transportation teams with vehicle inspections, maintenance scheduling, and operational requirements.
Valid driver's license appropriate for the assigned vehicle.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) where required by the position and applicable regulations.
Clean or acceptable driving record based on company requirements.
Previous commercial driving or transportation experience preferred.
Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles and related equipment.
Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safe-driving practices.
Ability to read maps, GPS directions, delivery instructions, and transportation documents.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and manage transportation assignments responsibly.
Ability to meet schedules and delivery deadlines.
