Payroll Clerk / Payroll Specialist
Location: Benicia, CA — 100% Onsite
Duration: Temp-to-Hire
Pay: $27–33/hour (Depending on Experience)
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk / Payroll Specialist to join our client in Benicia. This position plays a key role in accurately processing weekly payroll and supporting compliance requirements. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation Structure$27–29/hour:
For candidates with 1–3 years of payroll experience (general payroll clerk experience).$30–33/hour:
For candidates with 5+ years of payroll experience, including:- Construction industry payroll
- Union reporting
- Certified payroll
- Processing payroll for up to 400 employees per week independently
- Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for a high-volume employee population
- Manage union payroll, fringe benefits, and deductions
- Prepare and submit certified payroll reports
- Maintain employee payroll records and resolve discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and union requirements
- Collaborate with HR and accounting teams as needed
- 1–3+ years of payroll experience (construction payroll experience highly preferred)
- Experience with union payroll and certified payroll strongly desired
- Ability to process payroll for large employee groups independently
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with payroll software and Excel
