Position:
Payroll Clerk / Payroll Specialist

Location: Benicia, CA — 100% Onsite
Duration: Temp-to-Hire
Pay: $27–33/hour (Depending on Experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk / Payroll Specialist to join our client in Benicia. This position plays a key role in accurately processing weekly payroll and supporting compliance requirements. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation Structure
  • $27–29/hour:
    For candidates with 1–3 years of payroll experience (general payroll clerk experience).

  • $30–33/hour:
    For candidates with 5+ years of payroll experience, including:

    • Construction industry payroll
    • Union reporting
    • Certified payroll
    • Processing payroll for up to 400 employees per week independently
Key Responsibilities
  • Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for a high-volume employee population
  • Manage union payroll, fringe benefits, and deductions
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports
  • Maintain employee payroll records and resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and union requirements
  • Collaborate with HR and accounting teams as needed
Qualifications
  • 1–3+ years of payroll experience (construction payroll experience highly preferred)
  • Experience with union payroll and certified payroll strongly desired
  • Ability to process payroll for large employee groups independently
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with payroll software and Excel
