Traveling Retail Hazmat Driver - ICSS (Class B CDL + Hazmat required) job at Clean Harbors. Benicia, CA. Clean Harbors is seeking a Class B Retail Hazmat Collection Driver to join our Inter Company Support Services (ICSS) Team
, a specialized unit of on‑call professionals who travel across the Western United States to support Clean Harbors operations wherever they’re needed. This role combines environmental service expertise with flexibility and adventure, ideal for those who thrive on the road and in dynamic, mission‑critical settings. You’ll handle the collection, transportation, and proper disposal of hazardous and non‑hazardous retail waste, including recalled or expired inventory, oil products, batteries, light bulbs, and more.
As part of the ICSS Team, you’ll be deployed to various projects—often on short notice—covering vacancies, assisting with special projects, or supporting high‑volume operations.
Competitive Pay: $30.00–$32.75/hour DOE. Comprehensive health benefits coverage after 30 days of full‑time employment, including 401K with Company match. Key Responsibilities- Travel regularly throughout the western U.S. to fulfill ICSS assignments
- Ensure Health and Safety is a number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
- Pick up, pack and transport damaged and discarded goods and recalled products
- Load, pack and segregate materials and waste products
- Drive a Box Truck, visiting retail customer sites
- Segregate, pack and load materials and waste products (inventory that is damaged or expired) for safe transportation
- Interact with customers at each stop
- Prepare DOT shipping documents
- Use a laptop, printer, handheld, and iPhone to complete tasks
- Conduct projects/jobs according to site‑specific Federal, State and local regulations and health and safety plans as well as Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. policies and procedures
- Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations including Fortune 500 companies
- Responsible for final preparation and approval of all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT and company policies
- Understand customer‑specific disposal restrictions/special packaging requirements
- Ensure drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance with company’s policies and procedures
- Follow all local, state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules
- Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements
- Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures
- Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
- Flex to meet urgent or evolving business needs in assigned locations
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Valid CDL Class B license with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently and remain on location for extended durations
- Tech‑savvy: be able to operate mobile devices and basic software
- Strong customer service skills and a safety‑first mindset
- Must pass background check, drug test, and DOT physical
- Per OSHA’s Respiratory Protection standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators are required to meet facial hair standards
- Previous commercial driving experience
- Previous route experience
- Previous manual labor experience
