Job Responsibilities
- Serve as Academic Program Director for the College's Engineering Technology Program, including providing systematically planned and delivered instruction, designing and developing program and curriculum, tracking and managing fiscal affairs related to the program, providing assistance to the administration through committees and other activities, and advising and evaluating students.
- Teach classroom and laboratory-based college-level engineering technology and/or engineering-related courses in the electrical, mechanical, civil, advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, or engineering-related fields of study.
- Demonstrate ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.
- Assist the Dean with curriculum development and personnel issues; examine program/course content to achieve program and college outcomes goals.
- Evaluate program to include curriculum development, course/program implementation and/or elimination.
- Assist the Dean with budget and property; responsible for the development, tracking and management of budget and fiscal affairs related to areas of responsibility, including forecasting personnel and equipment needs.
- Develop, revise, and maintain courses, syllabi, lesson plans, and curriculum; manage and control classroom activities; observe required office hours; timely and accurately submit grades and reports.
- Advise students by assisting them in personal and professional development and providing academic guidance to assigned advisees and students enrolled in classes.
- Participate in professional development activities, internally and externally, to expand knowledge and skills; participate in college activities, committees, teams, recruitment, promotion events, and public service.
- Perform all other duties assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, industrial engineering, or an engineering-related field of study with a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in an engineering-related occupation.
- Valid driver's license.
- Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field, five (5) years of experience in the engineering technology field, professional engineering license, and experience teaching at a community or technical college. - Supervisory work experience or team leadership and experience in mechatronics, robotics and/or workplace automation is a plus.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, effective teaching concepts and adherence to current college policies.
- Ability to adhere to the designated work schedule and attend meetings and conferences as scheduled.
- Ability to establish good working relationships with students, faculty, alumni, workforce partners, businesses, and others in the college community.
- Ability to maintain a high level of excellence in instructional effectiveness and classroom management by communicating and interacting effectively with students enrolled in program courses.
- Knowledge of the engineering technology field, with a specialization in electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or related engineering technology field of study.
- Ability to facilitate courses with a hands‑on component to enhance and promote critical thinking, problem‑solving, work‑based and applied learning.
- Work under limited supervision provided by the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education in teaching and advising responsibilities; demonstrate independence and discretion.
- Teaching environments include classroom and lab; local travel to business/industry and community campuses required; some short‑term travel for professional meetings and possible overnight stays.
- Teaching locations may include state, federal, and juvenile correctional facilities, high schools, community campuses, industry and community sites.
