Job Overview

The Installation Technician (I.T.) is pivotal in ensuring VIP’s mission to earn automotive customers for life by delivering exceptional service. The I.T. works safely, communicates effectively, and uses company processes to provide high‑quality tire, parts, fluids, and accessory services.

Responsibilities
  • Prioritize workplace safety, following all safety policies and reporting unsafe conditions to Management.
  • Provide automotive repair/maintenance services such as tire services, oil changes, under‑hood services, multi‑point inspections, wheel alignments, and preventive maintenance.
  • Initiate a valid Service Work Order before servicing a vehicle and display it throughout the service.
  • Complete a Multi‑point Inspection (MPI) before every service and support the 5‑for‑5 Customer Engagement Process.
  • Return required printouts and vehicle keys to the Service Desk upon completion.
  • Obtain parts only through the Desk Team and return unused parts afterward.
  • Remove cores, batteries, and used tires to designated security areas.
  • Maintain a minimum average productivity of 50 % over any consecutive sixteen‑week period.
  • Adhere to VIP’s quality service policies and perform work to VIP quality standards.
  • Complete all required training and certifications for the position, including:
    • All LMS and equipment‑operation trainings.
    • Licensed State Vehicle Inspector (state‑specific).
    • TI‑A Basic Automotive Tire Service (BATS) and advanced TPMS certifications.
    • ASE certifications in G1, A4, and A5.
    • Deliver the 5‑for‑5 process to educate customers.
    • Attend meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Quality, Safety &

    Housekeeping:
    • Road‑test vehicles as needed after service.
    • Secure and lock customer vehicles when returning them.
    • Install seat and steering wheel covers and floor mats before entering customers’ vehicles.
    • Keep the work area and shop equipment clean and free of debris.
    • Participate in daily and weekly shop maintenance programs.
    • Comply with safety and loss‑prevention programs, including protective eyewear.
  • Additional duties (as assigned):
    • Maintain technical capabilities and keep ASE certifications current.
    • Review and authorize time and attendance records in DAYFORCE.
    • Apply VIP’s culture and service standards.
    • Attend team meetings.
    • Ensure shop equipment safety standards with the Service Manager.
    • Comply with regulations for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance:
    • Keep the facility in good condition, complying with security, safety, and environmental codes.
    • Ensure equipment is functional and clean.
    • Enter facility or equipment issues into the database.
  • Enforce service Code of Ethics and all applicable regulations and procedures.
Performance Measurement
  • Maintain minimum 50 % productivity (Billed Hours / Worked Hours).
  • Minimize re‑work and ensure first‑time quality.
Work Schedule
  • Standard 5‑day work week, 40 hours.
  • Arrive before shift start, ready to perform duties, and work all scheduled hours.
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Read, analyze, and interpret technical instructions, journals, procedures, or regulations.
    • Explain vehicle information to customers and respond to colleague questions.
    • Diagnose and recommend basic automotive solutions.
    • Apply written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
    • Successfully perform listed automotive services.
  • Education / Experience:
    • One year of related experience in automotive service field.
    • Completion of a two‑year college or technical program (recommended).
    • Or equivalent education and experience.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:
    • Valid state driver’s license.
    • ASE G1 – Maintenance and light repair.
    • ASE A4 – Suspension & Steering.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

The job is performed in an indoor service department (approximately 800‑2,500 sq. ft.) open to the outdoors via overhead doors. Employees are exposed to varying weather, mechanical equipment, automotive and industrial cleaning chemicals, and noise levels up to 110 decibels. Protective eyewear must be worn at all times. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and occasional kneeling and climbing, often with heavy equipment.

Back support belts are required during strenuous activities.
