Job Description

Full‑time Special Educator for the 2026‑2027 school year.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Special Education communication and liaison with Southwestern Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU).
  • Attend all Special Education planning meetings, act as parent advocate, and educate parents on special‑needs rights and terminology.
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and related files in accordance with Vermont regulations.
  • Prepare and send progress reports to parents and sending school districts.
  • Advocate for students on transition, academic, or accommodation issues.
  • Consult faculty, interventionists, specialists, and support staff to summarize student needs, educate teachers, clarify terminology, and mentor instructional supports.
  • Provide direct instruction to students as specified in IEP goals.
  • Co‑ordinate Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) and serve as SSD contact for families seeking testing accommodations.
  • Provide case management for students on IEPs.
  • Perform additional duties such as summer school teaching, administrative and transition meetings as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid Vermont Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement; provisional or emergency license may be considered, with preference for licensed candidates.
  • Experience in developing and providing IEP case management.
  • Knowledge of neurodivergent student profiles and evidence‑based practices such as Orton‑Gillingham, Wilson, and Structured Literacy.
  • Understanding of Vermont’s Special Education laws.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
