Overview

The Hospital Billing Manager is responsible for management of patient accounts receivable staff and related functions for SVMC. This position supervises the daily functions of the patient accounts receivable staff including, but not limited to, posting cash and charges, billing, remittance, and others to ensure all staff meet all applicable departmental benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily functions of patient accounts receivable staff.
  • Turn over staff responsibilities and ensure benchmarking compliance.
  • Train, evaluate, and develop staff for professional growth.
  • Maintain and update Meditech Charge Master, Claims, Procedures, and Statements dictionaries.
  • Stay current on emerging changes in patient insurance to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Resolve patient billing issues in a courteous and professional manner to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Review insurance contracts to maximize billing accuracy and recommend procedural changes to the Director of Revenue Cycle.
  • Resolve staff interpersonal conflicts in accordance with departmental and organizational policies.
  • Manage the technical denials process, including contacting third‑party carriers and writing appeals.
  • Act as an ambassador for departmental initiatives, including assessing/implementing staff training and ensuring compliance with SVMC procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison between Accounts Receivable and practice‑management facilities to ensure staff receive necessary training and resources.
  • Produce monthly AR reports and ensure data accuracy.
  • Generate provider‑based practice revenue reports and other special reports as requested.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in business administration, finance, health administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Ten years of experience in a healthcare accounts receivable environment with at least five years in a management position.
  • Additional education can replace work experience on a one‑to‑one basis.
  • Prior experience using Electronic Billing Software is required.
