Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) is dedicated to improving overall community health and takes a preventive approach to disease and illness. To do this, SVMC recognizes that health is a function of an individual’s behavior, genetics, and a complex web of other factors such as living environment, education, and socio-economic status. By addressing the social determinants, SVMC will improve the health of Vermonters.
At SVMC, you will partner with an experienced supervisor and healthcare executive to build upon the service of prior VISTAs, create and implement projects that reflect your interests, and advance your career. VISTAs have designed a texting platform for folks in recovery, led public health awareness campaigns, painted murals, launched youth-empowerment programs, supervised undergraduate interns, and more. However, healthcare affordability and the mental health and substance misuse crisis remain challenges for many in the region.
SVMC exists to provide exceptional health care and comfort to the people we serve. SVMC is a comprehensive, not-for-profit health system serving more than 80,000 people in VT, NY, and MA. It includes a medical center with an emergency department, an intensive care unit, surgical services, a regional cancer center, and primary care offices.
