Position: 11C Indirect Fire Infantryman

Job Description

As an Army National Guard Indirect Fire Infantryman, you will be in charge of the Infantry’s most powerful weapon – the mortar. In a mortar squad, section or platoon, you will perform activities such as parachuting from a troop transport airplane to access remote locations, constructing and camouflaging mortar positions, and locating and neutralizing enemy mines.

Responsibilities

As you gain experience, you will supervise and train other soldiers, lead and control mortar squads, provide tactical and technical guidance to subordinates, and oversee the construction of mortar positions. Advanced Indirect Fire Infantrymen receive and implement combat orders, direct soldiers in offensive and defensive operations, and request, observe and adjust indirect fire.

Job Duties
  • Set up, load and fire three types of mortars.
  • Employ crew and weapons in offensive, defensive and retrograde ground combat.
  • Operate, clean and store automatic weapons.
  • Employ, fire and recover anti‑personnel and anti‑tank mines.
  • Carry out scouting missions to spot enemy troops and gun positions.

Earn While You Learn

You will earn a regular paycheck while learning advanced skills. After 10 weeks of Basic Training you will attend 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), combining hands‑on simulated combat with classroom instruction, squad maneuvers, target practice and war games.

Requirements
  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard.
  • Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards.
