Job Title:

Reports To:
Principal and District Librarian
The Learning Center Assistant is a vital member of the school’s instructional support team. This role is responsible for the daily operations of the Learning Center, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment. The Assistant works directly with students and staff to facilitate the use of library resources, support literacy initiatives, and provide instructional assistance under the guidance of the District Librarian.
CoreResponsibilities Instructional Support & Engagement
- Student Mentorship: Assist individuals and small groups with prescribed learning activities and research projects.
- Literacy Advocacy: Conduct engaging story times, book talks, and reading promotion activities to foster a love of literacy.
- Classroom
Collaboration:
Assist the District Librarian with large-group instruction and support teachers in locating and gathering curriculum-specific materials. - Technology Guidance: Help students navigate the online library catalog, digital databases, and other learning center technologies.
- Circulation Management: Oversee the check-in/check-out process for books, equipment, and learning materials using library circulation software.
- Collection Maintenance: Prepare, process, and shelve new and existing materials; assist with inventory and weeding as directed.
- Environment Management: Maintain a clean, organized, and positive atmosphere conducive to quiet study and collaborative learning.
- Relationship Building: Promote library services by maintaining professional and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and the community.
- Administrative Support: Perform other clerical or supervisory duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the school.
- Certification: Must possess a valid Paraprofessional Letter; visit to learn how to apply for a para license.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students of diverse ages and backgrounds.

Skills:
Ability to multitask in a busy environment and maintain accurate records of library materials.
35 hours a week, 7 hours a day – Elementary Schools. 8:00 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m. with a 30 minute duty free lunch.
- $17.10 per hour

- Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the district.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, visual, and verbal form.

- Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
