Blackhawk Middle School is seeking a versatile teacher that has working knowledge of grades 6-8 Illinois Learning Standards for English Language Arts. In addition, this teacher must be familiar with current pedagogy and interventions that produce results with English learners. Potential candidates should be well versed in the academic, social/emotional needs of middle school students, and possess a willingness to devote the time required to be successful with high needs students.

The teacher must be collaborative and collegial and be an active, positive presence that promotes a safe and welcoming learning environment for both students and colleagues.

Qualifications
  • Professional Educators License with these endorsements:
  • Middle School English Language Arts - REQUIRED
  • Successful teaching experience desired, but not necessary
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to be an effective member of a team
  • Commitment to data-based decision making and continuous improvement model
Responsibilities
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Assess student progress and use data to inform instruction
  • Establish and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and families
  • Participate in grade-level meetings, professional development, and school activities
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with district and state requirements

Physical Demands
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the District.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in either written diagram or oral form.
  • Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.

Salary and benefits

Salary and benefits are based on the negotiated teacher contract for the 2026–2027 school year.
