Elementary Music Teacher (Grades K–5)
The District is seeking a qualified Elementary Music Teacher to provide comprehensive music instruction to students in grades K–5. This position is responsible for fostering musical literacy, creativity, self-expression, and an appreciation for diverse musical traditions through engaging, standards-based instruction.
The Elementary Music Teacher will plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music experiences that support students' musical growth and contribute to their overall educational development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, effective classroom management, and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can succeed. All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with district policies and state and federal requirements.
Qualifications- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in Music Education
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students preferred
- Knowledge of current elementary music curriculum, instructional methodologies, and assessment practices
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate instructional strategies
- Proficiency in music technology and instructional technology tools
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Plan and deliver engaging music instruction aligned with district curriculum and state standards
- Teach music concepts, skills, and appreciation to students in grades K–5
- Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, music literacy, listening activities, and creative expression into instruction
- Assess student learning and use data to inform instructional decisions
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners
- Integrate multicultural and diverse musical experiences into the curriculum
- Prepare and coordinate student performances and musical events as assigned
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support cross-curricular learning opportunities
- Maintain music equipment, instructional materials, and classroom resources
- Create a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment
- Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators
- Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities
- Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with district and state requirements
- Support the district's educational philosophy, goals, and student achievement initiatives
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
- Commitment to fostering student engagement, creativity, and musical growth
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Demonstrated ability to manage classroom and performance environments effectively
- Strong organizational skills related to curriculum planning, assessment, performances, and materials management
- Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the District.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, diagram, or oral form.
- Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds, including musical equipment and instructional materials.
