Job Summary /
Purpose:
The job duties of the Wastewater Operator Technician II - include but are not limited to performing operational duties by maintaining the Village of Bensenville’s 4.7 MGD WWTP, collection system, and lift stations and must represent the Village by providing responsive, courteous, and efficient service to the Village of Bensenville residents, businesses, and the public.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Wastewater Operator Technician II: This is the journey level class of the Wastewater Operator Technician series. The Wastewater Operator Technician II class is distinguished from the Wastewater Operator Technician I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise in that area.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain mechanical assets at the WWTP.
- Understand the WWTP design and use of process control to optimize effluent quality to meet EPA and biosolids treatment standards.
- Exercise functional and technical training for WW Maintenance Technician employees pertaining to plant operational tasks.
- Ability to troubleshoot variations in biological conditions through the interpretation of probe and gauge readings to determine process adjustments.
- Adjust feed rates of chemicals used in effluent disinfection, phosphorus removal and sludge conditioning with the use of polymers to provide optimum production for biosolids.
- Collect required samples and process samples for the NPDES, Pretreatment, and biosolids regulations.
- Conduct laboratory analysis for process control and NPDES required effluent discharge standards, ability to interpret the sample results and make corrective recommendations.
- Troubleshoot, operate and maintain all equipment and components at the Village’s WWTP and lift stations.
- Ability to operate and maintain portable and fixed backup power generating equipment.
- Appropriately follow Lockout-tagout procedures.
- Meet facility safety training requirements, maintain required health and safety certifications according to OSHA and facility safety requirements.
- Inspect and maintain plant safety equipment including portable gas detection meters, confined space rescue equipment, fire extinguishers, and emergency eyewash stations; submit safety suggestions; participate as a member of Plant Safety Committee on a rotating basis.
- Perform and participate in training for “Permit and Non-Permit Required” confined space entry.
- Perform work as identified in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s); assist the WW Crew Leader in SOP development and modification, when assigned.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and report issues and potential remedies to the Crew Leader and Wastewater Supervisor when required.
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems with the ability to interpret the data and resolve and discrepancies discovered.
