Dispatcher Position
Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the dispatcher's main duties include logging each call, answering questions by retrieving information from the relevant departments, and supervising field units' routes to prioritize and organize their schedules.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to any issues and follow up by coordinating with the appropriate departments or field units.
- Receive and dispatch orders for products or deliveries.
- Prioritize calls according to urgency and importance.
- Use radio, phone, or computer to send crews, vehicles, or other field units to appropriate locations.
- Monitor the route and status of field units to coordinate and prioritize their schedule.
- Provide field units with information about orders, traffic, obstacles, and requirements.
- Enter data in the computer system and maintain logs and records of calls, activities, and other information.
- Scheduling and dispatching drivers, work crews, vehicles, or equipment to appropriate locations according to predetermined schedules, customer requests, or immediate needs
- Speaking with supervisors or customers to resolve problems, requests for services or equipment
- Preparing daily work and route schedules.
- The supervisor may assign other duties.
- 3+ years of experience in a dispatching and logistics role, focusing on high-volume customer service.
- Having some college or a high school diploma is required.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills are required. Bilingual Spanish-speaking is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience with transportation systems and technology, including but not limited to:
Samsara, XRS - Omnitracs, Descartes, E-Logs, Smart Drive, Trimble Fleet (People Net), Transportation Management Systems (TMS). - Technical proficiency in PC skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local fleet and safety regulatory requirements (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- An analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills
- Available to work an early shift that includes a schedule from Tuesday to Saturday.
- A combination of education and experience with the above requirements will also be considered to satisfy the minimum requirements.
