About Benton Harbor Charter School Academy
BHCSA is set up in three different community levels;
Foundation (K‑2), Gateway (3‑5), and Preparatory (6‑8). We believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn in a safe environment where their unique needs are met through individualized support. Each community level has a lead teacher who is there for coaching and mentoring guidance. Each community level also has a student advocate to assist with restorative justice practices and classroom management.

- Accepts responsibility for the achievement of students.
- Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and implementation of personal learning plans of students.
- Uses resources effectively to support learning activities in the classroom, the Academy, and the community.
- Organizes and delivers development around the analysis of assessments and surveys as they relate to MICIP goals.
- Teacher Leadership (preferred completion of Cabarrus County Schools' program)
- Implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Responsiveness to Instruction.
- Coaching staff through hard conversations;
Using the problem‑solving model. - Facilitating a team‑lead functional behavior assessment and designing evidence‑based intervention plans.
- Collecting survey data from staff, students, and parents.
- Participating in a School Improvement Planning process;
Implementing universals as PBIS. - Developing, leading, implementing, monitoring, and collaborating with other educators in the school wide integration of MTSS.
- Communicating with parents and working on the Management Team, Data Teams, and Problem‑Solving Teams to implement the MTSS model which includes RTI and PBIS approaches.
- Coaching and training colleagues on MTSS implementation.
- Managing, analyzing, and utilizing student data (i.e., scoring probes, scheduling data collection, using collected data to drive student support).
- Training and ongoing coaching to school leadership teams and teachers on the MTSS framework.
- Working to develop, implement, and sustain our MTSS framework.
- Analyzing and utilizing student and teacher data with our School‑Wide Information System (SWIS) to guide data‑based decision making and enhance direct instruction.
- Reviewing and updating student codes of conduct.
- Supporting teachers in identifying student needs.
- Participates in regularly scheduled meetings and sharing of relevant information.
- Shares responsibility for professional, cooperative staff relations and for out‑of‑class activities important to the operation of the Academy.
- Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles.
- Displays personal qualities, which reflect favorably upon the individual, the group, and the Academy.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a teacher or instructional‑related professional.
- Knowledge and experience working with the MTSS system.
- Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers.
- Master’s degree.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with school personnel and students in a diverse school community.
To improve student achievement and school wide outcomes by leading and supporting the implementation of MTSS, PBIS, and data‑driven instructional practices; coaching staff; strengthening problem‑solving and behavioral supports; and collaborating with leadership, teachers, and families to ensure effective interventions, ethical practice, and continuous school improvement.
