Job Summary:

Responsible for providing information about financial and academic assistance available for individuals desiring to pursue high school completion (GED), and/or a program of postsecondary education; provides assistance and advising services to encourage and facilitate high school completion, postsecondary enrollment, and personal, educational, and occupational development. This position is funded through August 31, 2026

Essential Functions:

1. Recruits potential participants from target area community organizations and adult education sites; provides information about the college admission process, and financial aid availability.
2. Conducts interviews with participants to determine academic and personal needs related to high school completion and postsecondary enrollment.
3. Works with the EOC Director to establish and maintain referral relationships with community organizations serving primarily low income/disadvantaged individuals.
4. Advises participants in cooperation with adult education center site staff and college academic advisors/faculty on course and/or program selection; facilitating referrals as appropriate to foster high school completion and college enrollment.
5. Assists with presentations, radio appearances, and other public relations activities to publicize the Educational Opportunity Center purposes and methods of application.
6. Assists participants in career exploration, postsecondary transfer advising; assist participants in postsecondary research, completing postsecondary admission, and financial aid applications. Conduct workshops, administers career assessment inventories, and monitors participant progress toward goal achievement.
7. Actively participates in staff meeting and development sessions, and in-service meetings by providing insights and updates essential to the success of the project. Participates in project and staff evaluations.
8. Distributes project information, resource information, and referrals (including business referrals and community agency resources). Distributes applications and program information to potential partnering agencies.
9. Works with the EOC Director to request referrals from community agencies, maintain liaisons with community members and service organizations, improve community engagement, and strengthen partnerships throughout Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, LaPorte, and St. Joseph counties. 10. Performs all other duties as assigned

Job Specifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree preferred. Michigan counseling licensure and/or teacher certification preferred. Two years successful experience in educational and/or counseling activities involving low income and first generation individuals required. Experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting academic and career assessment instruments required. Experience in career counseling; knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures preferred.

Hiring Range: $45,000 (subject to available grant funding) Special Instructions to Applicants:

Part time staff are not employed directly by Lake Michigan College with a few exceptions based on MSPERS retirement program. All others are employed thru EDUStaff, LLC. If you are selected for one of these roles, you will be required to complete EDUStaff's employment application and on-boarding processes.

Reliable transportation is required due to meeting community partners at their organizations.
