Faculty, Biology - Physiology

Position Summary

Provide instruction, outreach, and other professional contributions aligned with the mission and strategic goals of Lake Michigan College. Develop and teach courses in Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy, Exercise Science, and Biology for Nonmajors, while creating an innovative and engaging learning environment.

• Design and deliver effective instruction in traditional, online, and hybrid formats using approved course outlines.
• Collaborate with colleagues to design, select, and implement appropriate assessment of student learning at the course and program level.
• Assist the department chair in developing academic schedules and budget, and in selecting and ordering course textbooks.
• Advises students within the academic discipline and holds posted office hours as required by the faculty contract.
• Submit contracts, grades, and other required paperwork within prescribed timelines.
• Contribute to College governance by serving on instructional committees, task forces, and other work groups, and by attending departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings.
• Recommend equipment and software needs to the Instructional Division Dean.
• Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate internal and external constituencies, including high schools, community agencies, professional organizations, and industry partners.
• Participate in program and discipline area reviews and other continuous improvement activities in teaching and learning.
• Integrate instructional technology into instruction when appropriate.
• Remain current in the discipline taught and in current trends in teaching methodologies.
• Participate in graduation exercises.
• Contribute to decision‑making in a productive manner.
• Assist in interviewing and selection processes for full‑time faculty, as requested.
• Maintain the highest ethical standards in relationships, research activities, and business dealings per College policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Master’s degree in Physiology, Exercise Physiology, or a related discipline and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in biology.
• Ph.D. in Physiology or Exercise Physiology preferred.
• Teaching experience required; community college teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to teach courses in Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy, Exercise Science, and Biology for Nonmajors.

• Teaching experience with a broad array of student populations.
• Curriculum development and program oversight experience.
• Commitment to the value of diversity and the free and open exchange of ideas.
• Technical competence, particularly in instructional technology.
• Ability to design and implement effective assessment strategies for measuring student learning.
• Knowledge and commitment to the mission and purposes of community colleges.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification or willingness to obtain one.
