Product Designer

Job Summary

Support the GAST Manufacturing engineering team by executing all 3D modeling needs spanning from new product development to updates and changes to existing 3D models and engineering documentation. Level and pay commensurate with experience and skills.

• Create new product and component designs in Solid Works with proper modeling, detailing and design intent.
• Achieve 90% on‑time delivery to design activities (able to hit timeline targets).
• Achieve modeling integrity and detailing capability for design function, manufacturability and serviceability.
• Prepare supporting documentation including modified prints and engineering standards per engineer’s requests.
• Apply and interpret basic GD&T (datum placement, position/profile, runout).
• Modify existing product and component designs in Solid Works with proper modeling, detailing and design intent.
• Achieve a 1‑week average turnaround time on redraws, CIPs, ECRs and NMPRs.
• Maintain, coordinate and process routine engineering change documentation and perform other miscellaneous duties as required.

• Associate’s degree in Design or a technically related field OR at least four (4) years product design experience.
• Advanced candidates:
  Bachelor’s degree and/or 10+ years product design experience.
• Fluency in Solid Works with strong component and assembly modeling;
  Inventor, Fusion 360 or Creo may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability in the basic sketch functions, extrude and revolve functions, the application of mates/constraints, and how to apply tolerancing.
• Advanced candidates must know how to use sheet metal functions in Solid Works.
• Engineering design knowledge and general mechanical aptitude required.
• Pneumatics experience is a plus.
• Understanding of basic tolerancing (linear/angular), including the meaning, impact and implications of the tolerances.
• Design for manufacturing knowledge: casting/molding, machining, sheet metal – required.
• Advanced candidates: powdered metal, 3D printing, welding, stamping/forming, tool design.

• Self‑direction: function responsibly with minimal active oversight.
• Prioritize multiple tasks and seek proper input when answers are unclear.
• Integrity, trust and teamwork: comfortable working within a team/network; ask for help when needed and provide help if able.
