911 Emergency Communications Dispatcher

Reports To:

Deputy Team Leader/Team Lead

Work Hours:

12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift assignments may change based on operational needs.

Safety Sensitive:
This position is designated as safety and security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol screening.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, gather accurate information, and enter it into computer systems.
  • Use dispatch protocols to calm, question, and provide instructions to callers, and provide emergency assistance until responders arrive as needed.
  • Monitor multiple radio channels and handle simultaneous radio traffic and calls, prioritizing service as volume requires.
  • Operate computer and electronic systems including the Enhanced 911 console, GIS mapping software, Rapid Deploy mapping software, CAD software, Priority Dispatch ProQA EMD software, AWIN, NAWAS, County VHF radio systems, Commander One Siren system, and local camera systems.
  • Utilize national and state criminal information computer systems (NCIC/ACIC) to retrieve and update records, run inquiries, receive BOLO notices, and maintain data integrity.
  • Establish priorities, transmit information, and coordinate action when competing, time-sensitive demands arise.
  • Dispatch appropriate personnel to emergency locations (law enforcement, ambulances, fire units, wreckers, animal control, coroner, or other agencies).
  • Notify Emergency Management personnel of significant incidents and maintain situational awareness of all events that may impact Saline County.
  • Serve as the county warning point, monitoring weather conditions and equipment for watches and warnings.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and perform basic maintenance of computer, communications, and general office equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism regarding sensitive information.
  • Represent Saline Emergency Communications with a reliable, dependable, and consistent presence.
  • Comply with mandatory staffing regulations set by the 911 Board.
  • Remain in a constant state of alertness and work safely as required for a safety-sensitive position.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include:

    • High school diploma or GED; specialized training in data processing, clerical/administrative tasks, or equipment operation.
    • 12–18 months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • ACIC Advanced Certification (required within first year)
    • FEMA 100, 144, 200, 242, 700, 800, 907, and 1200 Courses
    • Priority Dispatch Emergency Telecommunicator Course
    • Priority Dispatch Emergency Medical Dispatch Course
    • Arkansas Smart
      911 PSAP Console Training
    • MCDR-1 Missing Children Course
    PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
    • Communication Training – Problem Solving and Decision-Making Training
    SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED

    Advanced data entry proficiency.

    USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS

    Regular use of highly complex machines, equipment, and advanced software programs.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Somewhat disagreeable conditions; exposure to noise, intermittent standing, walking, pushing, carrying, or lifting. Some travel possible; work may occur in evenings or nights.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    Moderate noise level.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

    Highly repetitive tasks requiring concentration. Sit for extended periods and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May lift up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
    • Starting salary: $39,152 annually.
    • 12-h shift schedule; specific shift may vary.
    • Safety-sensitive position requiring physical alertness.
    • Pre-employment physical and drug screen; random drug screens during employment.
    • Bilingual pay available upon proficiency.
    • Group health, dental and life insurance paid for employee coverage when a wellness check is completed.
    • County contributes 15.32% toward retirement through the Arkansas Public Employees’ Retirement System.
