In the Nurse Extern role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a collaborative and supportive healthcare environment. This position offers the opportunity to develop clinical skills, strengthen critical thinking abilities, and build confidence in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Successful candidates will demonstrate critical thinking skills, decisive judgment while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Nurse Externs must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment and take appropriate action when needed. To provide a well-rounded learning experience, Nurse Externs will rotate throughout the entire facility, working alongside interdisciplinary teams and contributing to the exceptional care and service provided to our patients and communities.

A Nurse Extern
who excels in this role:

• Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
• Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
• Supports performance improvement philosophy.

Applicants should be enrolled in an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Needs to have a year or less of school left
• Have completed all hands on check offs
