Job Description & How to Apply Below

At Nile, the integrity of our financials isn’t a background function—it’s the foundation everything else is built on. We’re looking for a Controller who owns the numbers end-to-end: someone who builds the systems, holds the calendar, and makes sure “the month is closed” means every account has been reconciled to a documented standard. This role reports to the VP of Finance and directly manages our Accounting/Finance Analyst, Staff Accountants (AR and AP), and part-time Treasury & Compliance Specialist.

We are looking for someone who would rather build a repeatable system than firefight, and who holds a deadline as a commitment, not a suggestion. If you’re the kind of operator who makes the trains run on time—organized, direct, and relentless about closing the loop—this role is for you.

Why Nile Commerce?

At Nile Commerce, we help brands win wherever customers shop—online or in-store. Our finance team keeps the business grounded in accurate, timely numbers that leadership can trust and act on.

Our culture is built on three core values:
Launch into the Deep
: pursue excellence relentlessly;
Go One More Mile
: stay disciplined, keep commitments, and push through setbacks; and Give More Than You Receive
: build lasting relationships through humility, gratitude, and generosity.

Nile Commerce offers a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and paid parental leave.

Responsibilities
  • Close ownership — Own the monthly and year-end close across all entities. Publish and enforce a close calendar with owners, dependencies, and due dates; drive the close to a predictable, shrinking number of business days.
  • Completeness & controls — Define “done.” Build and maintain a close checklist that lists every account requiring review, its reconciliation method, and its owner — so a closed month is provably complete, not assumed complete.
  • Reconciliation integrity — Review and sign off on balance-sheet reconciliations, bank and intercompany recs, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and revenue. Investigate and clear reconciling items rather than carrying them forward.
  • Financial reporting — Produce accurate, on-time monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) by entity and consolidated, with variance commentary leadership can act on.
  • Team leadership — Directly manage the analyst and staff accountants, and the part-time Treasury & Compliance Specialist. Set clear accountabilities, coach to deadlines, and hold the team to them.
  • Systems & GL ownership — Own the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies in Net Suite and Quick Books. Standardize how entities are booked and eliminate one-off treatments.
  • Controls, audit & compliance — Design and enforce internal controls over cash, AP, AR, and journal entries. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax preparers, and insurance/compliance reviews.
  • Process improvement — Continuously improve the close: automate reconciliations, tighten cutoffs, reduce manual work, and document repeatable procedures so the process survives any single person.
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of a full-cycle month-end close and 2+ years managing accounting staff
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of taking a slow or unreliable close and making it fast, on-time, and provably complete
  • Strong technical accounting under US GAAP, including consolidations and intercompany across multiple entities
  • Hands-on ERP proficiency — Net Suite strongly preferred;
    Quick Books experience required; comfortable working directly in the system, not through printouts
  • Advanced Excel and genuine fluency with modern accounting tools and automation
  • A deadline-driven operator who holds themselves and their team accountable without excuses
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in consumer products, e-commerce, or multi-brand/multi-entity groups
  • Shopify and inventory/COGS accounting experience
  • Familiarity with EOS / Traction (accountability charts, scorecards, rocks)
  • Experience standing up close-management or reconciliation software

If you’re someone who thrives on building systems that work, takes pride in numbers you can stand behind, and wants to grow with a team that values customer focus, teamwork, excellence, and growth—we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today and help us build a financial foundation that scales.
