Job SummaryWorks under the supervision of the adult and circulation librarians, and plays an integral role in the library’s team, to successfully implement public services, policies, procedures and programs in accordance with the library’s mission.
Responsibilities for this position as the Outreach Coordinatorinclude identifying new outreach possibilities within the community among various groups to promote BPL services and activities; engaging and educating various groups about BPL services and activities; facilitate distribution of materials to homebound individuals/families due to mobility, health, or disability barriers; work in conjunction with Adult Volunteer Coordinator to establish volunteer participation in program; research and develop adult story time opportunities for elder care facilities.
Responsibilitiesalso include programming, which means devising new and educational adult programs in conjunction with FT team; lead and assist with existing programs in conjunction with other team members; ILL Services and all ILL requests from point of order to circulation.
Duties may also include: help with ordering, receiving and cataloging of adult materials, weeding and inter-library loan processing, as required. Additionally, performs routine desk duties, including but not limited to: issues and updates library cards, tenders money, checks out materials, provides reference/information and readers’ advisory services, plus technology help to the general public.
Strong focus on adult programming, training, customer service, technology experience and team work. Requires the application of elementary principles of library and information sciences. A complete job description is available upon request.
Circulation and Adult Services- Monitors the conditions of circulation, adult service areas, public computers and printing equipment.
- Issues and updates library cards to assure accuracy of information. Locates and checks out materials.
- Sorts materials according to classification code and need for repair and returns them to their storage area.
- Maintains records of accountability of borrowed items, process their respective returns and collect monies for fines, lost and damaged items.
- Distributes reminder notices to borrowers for overdue materials; prepare bills for fines and lost materials.
- Assists in retrieval of overdue materials and responds to inquiries about overdue bills and notices.
- Fulfills all holds services including locker technology at the library and the Community Center.
- Maintains knowledge of integrated library system (ILS).
- Works efficiently with RFID sorter systems; perform minor trouble-shooting procedures.
- Provides reference and reader’s advisory services.
- Assists patrons in the use of public access catalog, library computer systems and other library equipment.
- Provides Inter-Library Loan (ILL) services.
- Creates attractive book displays to attract adult library users and encourage use of library collections.
- Develops and presents programs and provides services for adults and families.
- Reports to the librarian/Senior Librarian to manage meeting facilities.
- Collects statistics and prepares regular reports for Library Director and/or Librarians as required.
- Receives, forwards, replies and/or composes professional correspondence.
- Serves as specialist in technology hardware, software, online programs and digital services.
- Communicates with library vendors for purchasing, support and statistics.
- Participates in public programs, outreach and meetings as required.
- Coordinates, trains and directs library volunteers in tasks that support library services and staff.
- Develops awareness of trends in adult/youth services and of issues affecting general information services.
- Assists librarian with training new staff members.
- Assists librarian with collection management.
- Prepares materials to promote library resources and services.
