High School Teacher
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the role facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment. The teacher provides feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals.
Essential Functions- Develops and administers high‑school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified by law and school regulations.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with other staff members, particularly within the grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional materials and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students in activities that take place outside the classroom during the school day, including transportation activities.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Principal and Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
EquipmentUses standard office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and the ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of high‑school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data systems, analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer networks and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Certification/License- Arkansas State Certification as a Teacher.
- Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level (preferred).
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
ExperienceSuccessful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is a plus.
