Position Overview

The Electrical Design Engineering Manager is a hybrid discipline technical leader and people manager. The incumbent provides a strong technical presence while leading a team of engineers and designers, developing team performance, mentoring, and ensuring the delivery of technical excellence and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering (preferred). High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience.
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry codes, design guides and standards.
  • Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering design software.
  • Demonstrated history of building trust‑based relationships and fostering collaboration.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to lead with empathy and clarity.
  • Demonstrated interest in growing others through feedback and mentoring.
  • High technical aptitude and comfort training others on systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Team oriented and willing to function in a collaborative environment.
  • Adaptable to changing work environments, priorities, and needs.
  • Ability to prioritize, execute, and direct multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Self‑starter, proactive, and willing to teach, manage, or help others.
  • Trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Additional certifications aligning with the relevant technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD).
  • Sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, WELL).
  • Performance as an Engineer of Record (EOR).
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers and designers, fostering a high‑performance culture.
  • Act as a hiring manager and career coach, attending interviews and providing performance feedback.
  • Participate in project scheduling meetings to align staff assignments with project scopes.
  • Provide direct coaching and conduct individualized goal‑setting meetings.
  • Assist sector leaders in establishing and implementing goals, policies, and standards.
  • Champions directives from technical and other leaders, facilitating upward feedback.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to manage project staff resources and discipline budgets.
  • Facilitate process improvements in project and design quality, using the quality review process and regular check‑ins.
  • Understands and applies Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, and procedures.
  • Oversee project coordination activities such as managing scope, schedule, email coordination, and client meetings.
