Program Director Renaissance Philanthropy, backed by the Walton Family Foundation, has launched the Catalyze
479 Fund to bridge the earliest-stage capital gap for Northwest Arkansas-based enterprises — providing capital to validation-stage companies and priming them to attract future angel and venture investment.
Role Overview Renaissance Philanthropy seeks a founding Director for Catalyze
479 — equal parts investor, community builder, and operator. You will design the investment thesis, assemble an investment committee, and deploy capital across two strategies: a Venture Validation strategy (idea- to pre-seed-stage technology companies) and a Main Street strategy (scalable, community-embedded businesses). Capital is deployed as Mission-Related Investments with both financial return and mission impact objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Finalize investment thesis, criteria, and operational infrastructure in partnership with Renaissance Philanthropy leadership
- Build and manage an active deal pipeline across both fund strategies
- Lead end-to-end investment processes: sourcing, founder assessment, due diligence, term sheet negotiation, investment memos, and Investment Committee presentations
- Serve as public face of the fund and primary relationship builder in the NWA innovation ecosystem
- Operate with significant local autonomy while collaborating closely with the NWA Innovation Fund Program Director Ideal Candidate
- Proven investor or operator experience (VC, angel investing, startup founding, or similar)- Deep roots or strong interest in building roots in Northwest Arkansas
- Ability to evaluate both tech-forward ventures and Main Street small businesses
- Track record of building community relationships and bridging capital to founders
