Position: Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics (Merchandising Assortment Optimization - OmniAI)

Overview

This role sits within the Merchandising Transformation organization and plays a central part in shaping how assortment and merchandising are done  team is leading the evolution of the end to end merchandising operating model, and this position will drive the advanced analytics efforts that power that change.

The role owns Omni Assortment Insights, also known as OmniAI, the model transforming how merchants decide what goes on store shelves. You will combine deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, guiding the ongoing development of the OmniAI engine while ensuring it stays tightly aligned to business priorities. Just as important, you will help drive adoption of these AI driven practices across the enterprise, turning advanced analytics into real, scalable impact.

Responsibilities
  • OmniAI Model Leadership:
    Own the design, development, and refinement of the OmniAI assortment optimization model. Oversee the model’s logic for store-level assortment decisions, validate its performance, and guide enhancements (e.g. integrating new data sources, improving algorithms for better demand prediction and space-aware optimization). Accountable for the model’s accuracy, scalability, and outcomes.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
    Evaluate and incorporate advanced analytical techniques (such as machine learning, optimization methods, or even LLM-driven interfaces for merchants) to improve the system’s confidence and autonomy. Prototype new features and work with the team to product ionize innovations (e.g. conversational interfaces for merchant inputs or improved algorithms for regional diversity).
  • Bridge Between Data Science and Business:
    Translate complex model outputs into actionable insights for the business. Explain the rationale behind AI recommendations and help merchants and leaders understand how decisions were arrived at. Build trust by highlighting drivers such as customer trends or supplier performance data.
  • Champion Adoption and Culture Change:
    Lead integration of OmniAI and continuous assortment processes within the merchandising organization. Coordinate training, create documentation or playbooks, and support team members through the transition (without formal change-management labeling).
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
    Collaborate with merchandising, product management, engineering, and operations to ensure AI-driven assortment delivers value. Align with IT on system capabilities, product teams on merchant-facing UI needs, and operations on store execution of continual changes.
  • Measure Impact and Guide Strategy:
    Use analytics to measure impact (e.g. lift in sales, reduced stock-outs, improved local relevance). Communicate insights to leadership and steer priorities accordingly. Investigate and address lagging metrics or data gaps as needed.
  • Technical Strategy & Alignment:
    Set the technical direction for analytics, ensuring alignment with overall model architecture and Walmart’s data strategy. Ensure consistency between forecasting/optimization techniques and model methodology, and incorporate field constraints into future updates.
