Machine Learning/ ML Engineer, AI Engineer (Applied/Software), Data Scientist, Data Analyst
Position Summary
We are looking for a Data Scientist III to join Sam’s Club fraud detection team. As a Data Scientist III, you will own fraud risks in various product segments and partner with product, engineering, and business teams to set goals, create strategy, detect changing fraud trends, build and implement high‑velocity ML models, and drive innovation across channels. You will also shape the next generation of fraud intelligence using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), network‑based modeling, and Generative AI techniques to enhance detection accuracy, accelerate investigations, and improve model explainability and decision intelligence.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Use machine learning to develop models for fraud detection in e‑commerce and in‑club payment fraud, return abuse, account takeover (ATO), and more.
- Design and implement graph‑based fraud detection systems, including link analysis, entity resolution, and GNN models to detect coordinated fraud rings and network‑level risk signals.
- Leverage Generative AI techniques (e.g., LLMs and agentic workflows) to enhance fraud detection, automate investigation workflows, generate risk narratives, and improve model explainability.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate fraud business problems into data science solutions.
- Work on highly scalable ML models and algorithms in big‑data mining, graph modeling, and related domains.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement model pipelines and deploy services at scale.
- Respond quickly to system issues and perform root‑cause analysis.
- Industry experience building production machine learning systems at scale.
- 3–5 years of experience with Python, SQL, and other data manipulation languages.
- Experience with large data sets and distributed computing tools such as PySpark, GCP, and Big Query.
- Hands‑on or strong familiarity with GNNs, graph embeddings, or large‑scale graph processing frameworks.
- Experience with Generative AI or LLM‑based approaches for decision intelligence, feature generation, workflow automation, or explainability.
- Desirable experience in fraud risk solutions.
- Experience working with cross‑functional product and engineering teams to define requirements and incorporate them into roadmaps.
