Data Science Manager, Data Analyst
Position Summary
The Senior Manager will play a key role in helping Walmart understand and optimize how we pay for energy across our portfolio using data analytics. You’ll focus on utility tariffs and energy cost modeling—translating complex rate structures and load data into actionable insights that inform business and infrastructure decisions.
- You’ll partner closely with other teams to answer data-driven questions like:
- What is the right tariff for a site?
- How will new loads (like EV charging) impact our utility costs?
- What will a project cost over time under different scenarios?
This role is highly analytical and focused on problem-solving and decision support to help guide investments.
Walmart Energy leads one of the largest retail energy operations, emphasizing efficiency, resilience, and clean energy initiatives. The team collaborates across utilities, infrastructure, and emerging technologies to optimize costs and support strategic objectives. The Business Strategy group leverages advanced analytics to guide procurement, risk management, and investment decisions. Managing utility partnerships, regulatory compliance, and rate optimization, the team drives projects in incentives and forecasting.
By integrating financial analysis and project management, they foster innovation and sustainable growth while upholding high standards of integrity and operational excellence.
- Manage utility partnerships across electric, gas, water, sewer, and propane vendors in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
- Assess and provide guidance on rate reviews and regulations.
- Track and analyze utility rate increases to support regulatory efforts and cost forecasting.
- Develop and execute utility products, services, and incentive procurement for energy efficiency and electric vehicle charging.
- Lead utility data acquisition initiatives and collaborate with utility leaders and trade organizations to support operational objectives.
- Drive business plans by identifying needs, removing barriers, and measuring performance through metrics.
- Mentor and develop associates, fostering a high-performing environment.
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Arts, Finance or related field and 4 years’ experience in data analysis, data science, statistics, or related field. - Option 2:
Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years’ experience in data analysis, data science, statistics, or related field. - Option 3: 6 years’ experience in data analysis, data science, statistics, or related field.
- 1 year’s supervisory experience.
- Master’s degree in Energy, Finance, Business, or related area.
- Prior work experience at the management level, interfacing externally with the utility industry and internally at senior executive levels.
- Prior work experience in a large-scale global business.
- Utilities business experience.
