Police Officer

• Enforce traffic control, criminal laws, and parking regulations.
• Work under the general supervision of the Chief of Police and direct supervision of the Sergeant.
• Manage stressful situations courteously, tactfully, calmly, and professionally.
• Evaluate situations, exercise good judgment, and make decisions.
• Respond quickly to emergency situations and calls for service.
• Use firearms and operate police vehicles.
• Observe situations objectively and analytically, and record and report them clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
• Perform moderately physical work indoors, outdoors, and in a vehicle.
• Attend related training classes and schools as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by superior officers or administration.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• Be certified by the Arkansas Law Enforcement Standards Training Academy as a Police Officer or become certified within one (1) year of employment. (Possibility of a one-year extension).
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Current and valid Arkansas driver’s license.
• Ability to communicate and maintain a good rapport with the campus population.
• Engages in and maintains control of situations/persons through use of minimal force needed in required situations.
• Able to pass a medical physical examination.
• Able to pass a psychological examination.
• Ability to walk 8 to 12 miles in an 8-to-12-hour shift.
• Ability to climb stairwells.
• Knowledge of law enforcement practices, methods, and techniques.
• Knowledge of traffic and criminal laws, and departmental regulations and procedures.
• Skill in the operations of fire arms.
• Basic computer skills with a general knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to properly prepare and write police reports.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles used in work activities.
• Must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
• Subject to pre-employment screening, including criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification.
