Join our innovative and dynamic Tax Engineering team as a Staff Software Engineer. In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in designing, developing, and implementing digital solutions that address mission‑critical business challenges, supporting Walmart associates. Your projects will make a significant impact, be scalable, and drive Walmart’s modernization efforts in the organization.

The Tax Engineering team partners closely with our U.S. business units—including stores and eCommerce—to enhance customer experiences by equipping associates, tax professionals, and merchants with innovative technology solutions. Whether it’s groceries, entertainment, sporting goods, or crafts, our platforms support Walmart U.S.’s broad assortment across digital and physical channels. Our focus areas include tax compliance automation, merchant tooling, data‑driven insights, and personalized experiences that streamline operations and ensure accuracy across the tax lifecycle.

• Provide deep technical expertise and thought leadership that helps accelerate adoption of the absolute best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends, and practices.
• Play a pivotal role in shaping architectural decisions, championing scalable and efficient solutions to meet present and future needs.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership and mentorship to your teammates, other teams and engineers.
• Lead and participate in medium‑to‑large‑scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing, and developing code, and conducting unit testing. Communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with project teams and cross‑functional teams. Troubleshoot open issues and bug‑fixes, ensuring on‑time delivery and hand‑offs. Interact with project manager to provide input on project plan.
• Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, root cause), engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues. Formulate action plans, performing actions as designated in the plan. Interpret the results to determine further action, perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues and complete online documentation.
• Provide support to the business by responding to users’ questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies). Facilitate resolutions and lead cross‑functional partnerships.

• 8+ years of strong development experience in Java.
• Experience designing and implementing REST API web services using Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring MVC.
• Experience writing unit test cases for code verification and code coverage using JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience deploying applications to the server using Docker and Jenkins.
