Software Engineer, Cloud Engineer - Software, DevOps

Position Summary

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Returns Engineering team. As a key technical leader, you will design and develop scalable solutions that optimize Walmart’s return management systems and drive continuous improvement across the organization.

• Design, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance systems for Walmart’s Returns Engineering team.
• Own the end-to-end architecture and development process for returns-related technology solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers) to gather requirements and deliver impactful software solutions that enhance workflows and customer experiences.
• Drive the adoption of agile engineering practices and Dev Ops methodologies across the team for continuous improvement and product delivery.
• Analyze complex business and technical requirements and provide recommendations to improve return processes, using cutting-edge technologies such as AI/ML and cloud‑native architectures.
• Advocate and drive best practices in engineering excellence, including documentation, testing, code reviews, and monitoring.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and growth across the team.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Experience: 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with expertise in building scalable, distributed systems.
• Proven expertise in Java, Python, or other modern programming languages and frameworks (Spring Boot, Node.js, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Azure, and proven experience in developing cloud‑native solutions.
• Expertise in microservices architecture and RESTful API development.

  SQL databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.
• Proficiency in containerization tools such as Docker/Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices, including Jenkins and Git Hub Actions.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to thrive in ambiguous challenges while delivering efficient and scalable solutions.
• Knowledge of retail or e‑commerce return processes (preferred).
