Overview
Works under the supervision of the Director of Signature Events, oversees all aspects of media equipment and technical services for campus events—from self-service equipment checkout to full operation of lighting, sound, and video for large, high-profile events. Supervises and trains a team of student workers to extend the team’s capacity and support the many events on campus. Collaborates with customers to identify scope and requirements, procures necessary equipment or contract support, and prioritizes demands based on resources, skillset, and budget.
Provides a high level of customer service and reads/evaluates an artist’s Technical Rider for live events.
- Ensure audiovisual needs are met for all designated signature events, including planning meetings, setup/tear down, sound checks, and related activities, either in-house or with external resources.
- Manage the Event Media Support student team’s work schedule and assignments.
- Collaborate with producers of large events (e.g., Convocations, Commencement) to define and arrange required technical services from in-house and/or external resources.
- Recommend audiovisual technology options for event venues.
- Manage audiovisual equipment inventory of portable and installed systems, including routine maintenance, testing, repairs, upgrades, check-out and check-in processes.
- Supervise and train event media support student workers.
- Cover frequent evening and weekend event support assignments.
- Maintain current knowledge of equipment and best practices for event media support (videography, audio engineering, lighting, pre/post-production).
- Organize and perform preventive maintenance of event equipment to ensure proper function and availability.
- Support Berea College’s student supervision commitments, including scheduling, assigning, and approving work; developing students’ workplace acumen and providing tangible work experience.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least three years of experience in live event and media production.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage student workers in a fast-paced, team-oriented live event environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of lighting, video, audio, and media equipment for presentation and production.
- Demonstrated experience with AV equipment such as Crestron or Extron; strong lighting and sound skills.
- Ability to diagnose and repair AV configurations and related software/hardware problems.
- Exceptional customer service and strong communication skills.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Some lifting up to 50 lbs; may involve long periods of sitting or standing.
- Ability to push equipment or carts; extended hours for larger productions; navigate campus facilities.
- Generally office environment, with work in other campus buildings or off-campus locations; may involve interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors and calls.
- Operate automobile and standard office equipment.
