Overview

The Berea Corps College Ambassador and Public Education Associate will report directly to the Director of the Visitor Center. The successful candidate will greet visitors to the Center and help to expand or deepen their understanding of Berea College, its mission and its many unique differentiators. They will assist in the coordination of events and activities for tour groups, ensuring every visit is a learning experience about the College, its mission and its history.

The successful candidate will help nurture relationships between the Visitor Center and the College’s many centers as well as individual faculty and staff members. Overall, this position will help bring new guests to campus and will ensure that when visitors do arrive at the Center they leave with a deepened appreciation for Berea College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and organize events that increase awareness of Berea College.
  • Develop educational presentations that highlight the many diverse characteristics that combine ot make Berea College a college like no other.
  • The College Ambassador and Public Education Associate will assist customers with the purchase of Student Craft items within the Visitor Center and through our e-commerce portal.
  • The College Ambassador and Public Education Associate will work in conjunction with the Director of the Visitor Center to be of service to the Boone Tavern and their guests, assisting with guest agendas and helping to schedule activities with our campus community and centers.
  • The College Ambassador and Public Education Associate will work and study to develop a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of Berea College and will keep current on all events and activities across Campus so that they can share them with visitors to Campus.
  • The College Ambassador and Public Education Associate will help find and solicit new groups to visit our campus, making calls, sending emails, and making personal visits as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with City and State tourism.
  • Train as a tour guide to be able to give all offered tours so that when Visitor Center guides are unavailable, the College Ambassador and Public Education Associate can provide this educational experience.
  • Learn and become fluent in the history and current mission of the College and of Berea College Student Craft so that every single group that comes to visit leaves with a thorough understanding of our mission.
What You’ll Bring Education required to ensure success in this position:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from Berea College with a graduation date in 2025 or spring 2026. Major in Art or Art History, History or Communications preferred but not required.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
  • A desire to promote the college in an engaging and sincere manner. Experience working with the public and providing excellent customer service. The ability and experience of working independently and being able to take initiative to get work done. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

License, certification, or registration necessary:
  • Golf Cart Certification
Physical requirements:
  • Ability to use computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle (including a golf cart) and current driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 20-40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
