Position Overview

The Art and Art History Department of Berea College seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Art History, beginning August 2026. The position is focused on global, transnational, and/or diasporic approaches to pre-1800s art history, with a specialization in areas such as the Ancient Mediterranean, European and/or Global Renaissance/Baroque, and the arts of Africa, Asia, Latin America, pre-1800 craft history, or material culture.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a 3/3 undergraduate teaching load, including introductory surveys, regional and period introductory and upper-level courses, and thematic seminars.
  • Design and teach a course for the General Education core program.
  • Engage in continuing professional and scholarly growth, advise students, and provide service to the department and college.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Art History required at the time of appointment.
  • Established record of excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching.
  • Commitment to the unique mission of Berea College.
  • Demonstrated interest in global, transnational, and/or diasporic approaches to pre-1800s art history.
