The Connell Company is seeking a Multifamily Property Accountant to support the financial operations of a nationwide portfolio of 11 multifamily properties. This role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, property-level analysis, and the accounting activities that support strong portfolio performance.

Working closely with property management and internal partners, the Multifamily Property Accountant will manage monthly reporting, reconciliations, variance analysis, budgeting, lender reporting, and audit support. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting experience, residential real estate knowledge, and a high level of ownership and attention to detail.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements for assigned multifamily properties, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Review trial balances, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and investigate variances, discrepancies, and unusual activity.
  • Analyze property-level financial performance and provide meaningful insight into trends, operating results, and areas requiring follow-up.
  • Monitor property cash requirements and support cash flow planning across the portfolio.
  • Partner with third-party property management teams and internal stakeholders to review financial results, resolve accounting questions, and maintain accurate property records.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and periodic financial analysis for assigned properties.
  • Prepare lender reporting and other financial information required by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and support capital expenditure tracking.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax-related requests, and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Support portfolio consolidations and other accounting projects as needed.
  • Maintain strong documentation, internal controls, and consistent accounting practices across assigned properties.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with experience in multifamily, residential real estate, or property management preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and multifamily property accounting practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
  • Experience analyzing property-level financial performance, budgets, and variances.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with large financial data sets.
  • Hands‑on experience with Yardi property management and accounting software required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through with the ability to manage multiple properties and competing deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify issues and drive them through resolution.
  • Ability to partner effectively with property management teams and internal stakeholders to support accurate financial reporting and timely issue resolution.
