Business Development Representative
Location:
Hybrid / Berkeley Heights, NJ Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000 plus bonus
The role of the Business Development Representative is to develop and generate new business opportunities through current customers and prospects. This position works in collaboration with the sales team and product specialists to manage and increase sales activities across all product lines. The Business Development Representative will also leverage artificial intelligence (AI), digital sales tools, and data-driven technologies to improve prospecting, customer engagement, market analysis, sales productivity, and identification of new business opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate the organization's objectives and strategic plans to team members and customers.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and customers through sales outreach, prospecting, meetings, trade shows, quote follow-up, and other business-development activities.
- Collaborate with the Business Development Group to create and increase market awareness.
- Develop and maintain client relationships through active networking to identify potential business opportunities.
- Act as a liaison between clients and internal teams.
- Grow sales of products and services throughout the territory by working with new and existing customers.
- Provide on-site product demonstrations.
- Develop yearly sales plans with monthly updates.
- Utilize AI-enabled sales and productivity tools to improve prospect research, account planning, lead qualification, customer follow-up, and sales preparation.
- Use AI and data-analysis tools to identify customer trends, potential opportunities, market segments, and areas for account growth.
- Apply generative AI tools to assist with sales communications, presentations, proposals, meeting preparation, research, and other business-development activities while maintaining appropriate review and accuracy standards.
- Identify opportunities where AI, machine learning, machine vision, robotics, and other emerging automation technologies may address customer business or manufacturing challenges.
- Work with product specialists and technical resources to translate customer operational challenges into potential automation, digitalization, and AI-enabled solutions.
- Maintain awareness of emerging AI technologies and their applications within industrial automation and manufacturing.
- Share AI tools, workflows, market intelligence, and best practices that can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the broader sales organization.
Skills Required
- Strong understanding of industrial automation products and their applications.
- Working knowledge of artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, and their practical applications in sales, manufacturing, and industrial automation.
- Ability to effectively use AI-enabled productivity and sales tools for research, prospecting, data analysis, content development, meeting preparation, and workflow optimization.
- Ability to recognize customer applications and business problems where AI-enabled automation technologies may provide value.
- Strong prompt development and AI interaction skills, including the ability to provide appropriate context, evaluate AI-generated information, refine outputs, and validate results before business use.
- Understanding of responsible AI use, including confidentiality, customer data protection, intellectual property, information security, and the need for human review of AI-generated content.
- Ability and willingness to continuously evaluate and learn emerging AI technologies and determine their practical business value.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with a strong sense of urgency.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization.
- Team player with a positive attitude who can also work independently and establish priorities and tasks.
Business Interactions Internal:
Communicates and collaborates with the Sales Team, Customer Service, Vendor Representatives, Sales Manager, Product Specialists, and technical resources regarding sales activities, customer opportunities, automation applications, and emerging AI-enabled solutions. External:
Communicates with customers and prospects, including but not limited to purchasing agents, design engineers, controls and automation engineers, project managers, production managers, plant managers, operations personnel, and other technical and business stakeholders.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 Per Year
