Medical Science Liaison – Great Lakes Region
Position Summary – The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field‑based scientific medical expert within Ipsen’s U.S. Medical Affairs Neuroscience team. The role engages national and regional thought leaders, investigators and healthcare providers to share scientific insights, support clinical research and advance both clinical trial initiatives and Investigator‑Sponsored Studies.
Key Responsibilities- Identify, gain access to, and develop peer‑to‑peer relationships with regional and national thought leaders, investigators and providers at academic and non‑academic institutions and professional organizations within the Great Lakes Region.
- Demonstrate and maintain deep scientific expertise on Ipsen products and therapeutic areas, including the competitive landscape and patient‑care gaps.
- Engage in ongoing scientific exchange to gather insights on current practice, treatment landscapes, and emerging data.
- Assist with Company‑Sponsored Studies (CSS); identify investigators/sites, conduct site initiation visits, educate to support enrollment, and provide operational feedback to ensure optimal site selection and performance.
- Partner with Medical Affairs and Medical Information services to ensure accurate delivery of medical and scientific information as needed.
- Respond to on‑label and off‑label questions with integrity and adherence to legal, regulatory, and Ipsen guidelines and procedures.
- Represent Ipsen and the U.S. Medical Affairs Team at scientific conferences, continuing medical educational events, and medical meetings.
- Respond to unsolicited requests regarding Investigator‑Sponsored Studies (ISS) and support ISS submissions, initiation, and closure through appropriate internal processes.
- Lead development and implementation of a regional territory plan.
- Train and facilitate speakers on Ipsen’s products.
- Work efficiently to balance all activities and execute local medical strategies within planned timelines.
- Engage in continuous independent learning within the therapeutic area and actively attend upskilling programs related to Ipsen molecules, products, disease states, and relevant business topics.
- Differentiates Ipsen as the valued scientific partner of choice through innovative initiatives, coordinated strategy, scientific communication, and patient centricity.
- Build and cultivate close working relationships with all U.S. cross‑functional team members—field‑based and home‑office based—including marketing, HEOR, medical/clinical operations, etc., while maintaining full compliance with relevant company, industry, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Support cross‑functional teams to ensure operations remain patient‑focused, rapidly responding to internal and external requests and providing medical affairs support to all stakeholders.
- 2–3years of MSL work experience (required).
- Prior experience in migraine/headache (required); neurology/movement disorders and pain experience considered.
- Knowledge of migraine/headache customer segments and market dynamics.
- Excellent planning, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain credible, scientific relationships with top experts.
- High-level interpersonal skills and teamwork capability.
- Expertise in synthesizing and communicating medical information clearly to multiple audiences.
- Knowledge of PhRMA, OIG, and other guidelines related to compliant medical communications.
- Strong project‑management abilities.
- Thorough understanding of the regulatory environment.
- Leadership capabilities.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Ability to travel 50‑70% within the Great Lakes Region.
- Experience with product launches and life‑cycle management.
Doctoral‑level degree in the sciences (MD, DO, PhD, Pharm
D, Nursing, or equivalent).Fluent in English.
Annual base salary range for an MSL: $185,000–$215,000
USD.
